A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo - Audiobook

20 March, 2018, 04:16 | Author: Priscilla Morrison
  • Marlon the longest-serving Pence family pet “reading” his new children’s book in the Naval Observatory sunroom

Last week, The Washington Post brought you news of "Marlon Bundo's A Day in the Life of the Vice President", the furry new tale about the real White House pet rabbit. It hits stores on today.

There's one big difference right off the bat: Oliver's Bundo is gay. "You'll notice that our rabbit has a bowtie. Also, our story is about Marlon Bundo falling in love with another boy rabbit because our Marlon Bundo is gay".

Comedian John Oliver likes exactly one thing about Vice President Mike Pence - his family's pet rabbit, Marlon Bundo.

But Oliver did the Pence book one better. In Oliver's view, the book "even managed to ruin Marlon Bundo", as the book tour includes a stop at Focus on the Family, a group that supports gay conversion therapy. He joked that former White House advisor Omarosa was right when she warned fellow contestants in the Celebrity Big Brother house that "as bad as y'all think Trump is, you would be anxious about Pence". He was notoriously bi-sexual during the 1950s, when homosexuals were widely shunned. Arguably the most unsafe for LGBTQ people policy-wise in the current administration, Pence is also the one person Donald Trump can't fire.

"We would be begging for days of Trump back, if Pence became president, that's all I'm saying", she said on a recent episode. He is most well-known for his opposition to gay rights, though, and Oliver spent the rest of the time on that topic. "I'm like, 'Jesus ain't say that'". While his official campaign website uses clever language that allows his to disavow direct association with the pseudo-science, his continued support of glorified homophobe Dr. James Dobson and organizations like Focus on the Family connect the VP to the practices most vocal supporters. And, all of the proceeds from Oliver's book will go to the Trevor Project, which provides assistance to LGBT youth, and to AIDS United.

Oliver's book is now an Amazon bestseller. An audiobook of the story, titled "A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo", is also available, featuring voices from Jim Parsons, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jeff Garlin, Ellie Kemper, John Lithgow, Jack McBrayer, and RuPaul.
