United Airlines flight diverted after third pet incident in a week

  • For the third year in a row, United Airlines has the most pet deaths

In the same week that a French bulldog apparently suffocated on a United flight and the airline wrongly sent a German Shepard to Japan, a flight had to be diverted because a pet was put on the wrong plane.

United said it would take full responsibility for the "tragic accident that should never have occurred" and that pets should never be placed in the overhead bins.

Then, days later, the airline sent a German Shepard that was supposed to go to Kansas was sent to Japan.

United said in a statement that the flight attendant did not realize the dog was inside the carrier because she did not hear the passenger's warning. But an hour into the flight, the plane stopped in Ohio.

United said that the dogs were put on the wrong planes when being moved from connecting flights in Denver.

On Monday, a French bulldog puppy named Kokito suffocated in an overhead bin, after a flight attendant insisted the owner stow the dog there for a three-hour flight from Houston to NY.

Things just got even worse for United Airlines. The bill is called Welfare of Our Furry Friends Act, or WOOFF.

And on Tuesday, United mixed up the flight itineraries of two dogs flying in cargo, sending one to Japan that was meant to go to Kansas City.

Prosecutors in Houston are investigating to determine if criminal charges are warranted, AP said.

Irgo arrived back with his family on Thursday after United chartered a private plane from Japan.

United Airlines is retiring its fleet of Boeing 747 aircraft that are affectionately known as the ÒQueen of the SkiesÓ and marked the occassion with a final flight from San Francisco to Honolulu, Hawaii.
