West Ham given deadline to explain pitch invasion

West Ham have confirmed they will hand lifetime bans to those fans who invaded the pitch and threw missiles during the 3-0 defeat to Burnley on Saturday.

West Ham United manager David Moyes hopes a training camp in Miami will provide an ideal platform for the London club to prepare for a potentially hard climax to the Premier League season.

The duo's presence at the London Stadium against Southampton could spark more protests from the fans.

David Moyes' West Ham United will face Southampton at the London Stadium in the Premier League later this month.

Club bosses are thought to be unhappy with stewards for failing to prevent the chaos, which saw four pitch invasions and culminated in co-owner David Sullivan being hit by a coin.

"Any individual found guilty will be banned from attending any West Ham United fixture, home and away, for life and the Club will request the courts serve a banning order to prevent these individuals attending any football matches in future".

Captain Mark Noble urged Hammers supporters to get behind the team at a challenging time for the club.

On Wednesday, the Hammers released a subsequent statement calling for spectators to throw their weight behind supporting the survival bid, with David Moyes' side sitting two places and three points above the drop zone.

The latest incidents are not the first scenes of trouble since West Ham moved to the London Stadium 18 months ago and have raised fears that the club could be punished by having to play a future game behind closed doors.

Another meeting with various stadium stakeholders and the Metropolitan Police is planned for Thursday.

It is understood that the fans' safety remains the club's primary concern.
