  • Presidency bars PUNCH, others from covering Buhari's Benue visit

It was learnt that the police boss was summoned to the president's residence on Tuesday morning.

Buhari asked IGP Idris to provide a comprehensive report on police operations in the affected States, after which further decisions would be taken.

"We would like to restate our determination to ensure that the attacks and killings are brought to an end, and perpetrators to justice".

Most speakers at the town hall meeting included Senator George Akume, former military administrator of Benue State, General Atom Kpera, General Lawrence Onoja, and former Nigeria's Minister of Steel, Chief Paul Unongo.

I didn't know he moved here (Benue State) and didn't spend much time ... and then moved to Nasarawa.

"Mr. President, I stand here today to talk on behalf of the women, children and the aged of Benue state".

He said the insecurity in some states was a major concern to his government and that concerted efforts were being made to restore normalcy to every part of the country. I am getting to know this at this meeting.

"The problem in Benue started worsening because the IGP refused to follow my instruction".

"Nigerians can no longer bear with a government that cannot give directives to officials and monitor them through; a government that is so inept that it lacks the elementary proficiencies to initiate and implement effective policies and programmes for national cohesion and development; a government that lacks the basic skills to internationally engage and run a virile economy", the PDP added.

The governor denied allegations that the Benue State government was keeping and training a militia group to fight Fulani herdsmen in the Benue.

Meanwhile, the killer-herdsmen have launched a fresh attack in Plateau State, leaving 25 people dead.

"We have deployed security agencies to make sure the clashes between farmers and end as soon as possible". Today that you are here, I will say to you directly sir that if you were here this genocide that has taken place in Benue state on New Year day wouldn't have occurred.

Omokri quoted the statement of the president again where he was reported to have said: "I did not know that the IG did not stay in the state". But a man does not have to be sacrificed unjustly that is what the President is saying.

He disclosed that he even shared the IGP's security report on the Benue crisis with Senators George Akume and Barnabas Gemade from the state.

The president is also schedule to visit Yobe, Zamfara and Rivers States over the same issues.
