  • The protest was organised by the Kurdish community

Police closed London's Kings Cross station as pro-Kurdish demonstrators attempted to rally inside.

National Rail said King's Cross station has been fully re-opened but trains there may still face delay or revision as the service recovers, according to BBC. "Trains on routes using the station will be terminated short of destination".

"Trains are now able to depart from the station; however, customers are now unable to access the platforms".

Social media users posting pictures from among the crowd are stating that the demonstration is in support of Afrin, which Kurds have claimed is being "ethnically cleansed" by the Turkish military.

The demonstration came hours after a similar protest forced the closure of Manchester Piccadilly railway station.

One tweeted: "Stay away from Kings Cross at all costs, we have riots going on".

They wrote: 'Officers are on the scene @NetworkRailMAN responding to an ongoing trespass incident.

Approximately 100 activists made their way from the concourse at Manchester Piccadilly onto the tracks at around 1pm.

Superintendent Mark Cleland, of BTP, said: "While we appreciate and respect the right to peaceful protest, when this compromises the safety of the public and the protesters themselves, any offenders will attract the full investigative resources of BTP".

Rail passengers faced hours of disruption after protesters on the tracks brought services to a standstill at one of the country's busiest stations.

.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: "The station will remain closed until all protesters have been removed".
