  • House intel committee finds no evidence of collusion between Trump campaign, Russian Federation

Committee member Rep. Mike Conaway is expected to announce Monday that the body will now begin writing its final report on its findings, CNN reported. Panel Republicans have been saying for weeks they were near the end of the interview phase of the probe.

Committee Democrats had no immediate response to the announcement, which was expected.

The House Intelligence Committee's Russian Federation investigation is coming to a close, according to a CNN report published Monday afternoon.

When asked whether Robert Mueller will come to a different conclusion with his special counsel investigation, Conaway said he thought his investigation was thorough. Among the witnesses who were reportedly not called before the committee were Paul Manafort, Trump's former campaign chair, and Michael Flynn, Trump's former national security adviser. Committee aides said they spent hundreds of hours reviewing raw source material used by the intelligence services to make that claim and that it did not meet the appropriate standards.

The committee's traditional bipartisanship began unraveling in the spring of past year, when Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., took a secret trip to White House grounds to review information gathered by unnamed sources purporting to show that President Trump was under surveillance by the Obama administration during the 2016 campaign. In a statement Monday night, the panel's top Democrat, Rep. Adam Schiff, Calif., said the sight-unseen report was a "tragic milestone" and a "capitulation to the executive branch". Republicans have countered that Democrats on the panel have turned private proceedings into a television spectacle to earn political points.

Mr Trump has repeatedly denied colluding with Russian Federation.

Russian Federation has denied seeking to meddle in the US vote.

Ending the House probe puts renewed urgency on Mueller's investigation of potential crimes committed by Americans connected to the Russian plot.

The intent of both the House and Senate probes has been to take a closer look at a January 2017 conclusion from the us intelligence community that the Russian government took steps to influence American voters.

"On a whole host of investigative threads, our work is fundamentally incomplete, some issues partially investigated, others, like that involving credible allegations of Russian money laundering, remain barely touched", Schiff said.

The House probe has been marred from its early days by steadily rising hostility between Republicans and Democrats, a dynamic that grew into a crippling distraction. The Republicans' current control of both houses of Congress is up for grabs in the November vote, and early polls show they face a hard fight in particular to retain a majority in the House.

Conaway, for instance, said the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting between senior campaign officials and a Russian lawyer where dirt on Clinton was promised was "ill advised".

Republican California Rep. Devin Nunes, the chairman of the committee, has said in interviews that he has seen no evidence of collusion.

Reflecting a deep partisan divide on the House of Representatives panel, Democrats have been arguing that the probe is far from over.
