According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the team will likely release defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh before the start of the new league year on Wednesday.
A recent ESPN article indicated that Suh is expected to receive his release from the Dolphins by midweek, leaving him available for other teams to acquire.
"Stay tuned", Suh said in a video posted on Twitter.
The Dolphins are moving on from Suh as they continue their attempt at a culture change - a plan that already led to the trades of wide receiver Jarvis Landry?last week and running back Jay Ajayi?in October. He signed a $114 million, six-year deal with the Dolphins when he joined them in 2015, and his base salary this year would be $17 million.
Suh spent the first five seasons of his career with the Detroit Lions and the last three with Miami.
Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh's time with the Miami Dolphins is reportedly set to come to an end.
If Miami had paid Suh as scheduled over the next two years, the cap hit would have been $54.2 million and he would have earned $36 million. Releasing Suh now would save the Dolphins just $3.9 million against the cap.
To put those numbers in perspective, over the last three seasons, Joe Flacco had the highest salary cap figure in the National Football League at $24.6 million and no defensive player had a figure higher than $22.1 million.
Suh has a history of being fined for player-safety violations. Good and even great players can still have a negative impact on a team dynamic. The 31-year-old has played well for Miami and not missed a game in three years, but head coach Adam Gase feels moving on from Suh is necessary. Over three seasons with the Dolphins, he recorded 108 tackles and 15.5 sacks.
