  • Jake Arrieta Close to Finding New MLB Home, Reports Say

It is clear that the Phillies are planning to make a legitimate run at the National League East division crown.

The Philadelphia Phillies have won the Jake Arrieta sweepstakes, agreeing on a 3-year deal.

Some people on Twitter have thrown out the idea of signing a pitcher like Arrieta to a one-year deal that pays him around $25-30 million for 2018 and attempts to trade him at the deadline.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reported the Philadelphia Phillies are "moving close to a deal" with Arrieta.

One of the marquee free agents in this year's class, Arrieta has had a surprisingly long offseason. He was 14-10 with a 3.53 ERA previous year. During his successful career transformation with the Cubs, he was 68-31 with a 2.73 ERA in 128 career starts.

The Phillies haven't had a winning season since 2011, but now have added veteran slugger Carlos Santana, Arrieta and quality relievers to a young nucleus that could show considerable improvement over last season's 66-96 mark.

Arrieta will front a rotation that includes promising young arms in Aaron Nola and Vince Velasquez. Players and coaches have been wearing T-shirts with those words on them and they've been using the phrase often in interviews.

After a dominant 2015 campaign - a 22-6 record, 1.77 ERA, 0.87 WHIP (that's no typo), 236 strikeouts, just 48 BB, and only 10 HR's allowed.
