Salisbury spy investigation: Army called in

  • Russia has rolled out a robot tank

According to a spokesman for the Ministry of Defence, experts have identified the presence of a nerve agent at the scene and military units have been sent to remove a number of vehicles and objects believed to be from the area.

During the attempted poisoning of former Russian intelligence officer Sergei Skripal in the British city of Salisbury, injured 20 people, including the daughter of Yulia Skripal and Sergeant nick Bailey.

Sergei Skripal, 66, and his 33-year-old daughter Yulia smiled for the camera while holding glasses of lager and wine inside the Italian chain.

As part of what's called a Cobra meeting, Rudd brought together senior Cabinet ministers Saturday to hear the latest updates on the situation, Downing Street said.

Prime Minister Theresa May has said Britain will react with the appropriate response if a state was found to be behind the murder attempt. "We are putting in enormous resources to ensure that they have all the support that they need to do that".

The Skripals remain remain in a critical condition in hospital five days after the attack when they were found slumped on a bench at a shopping centre in the city, some 80 miles southwest of London.

To recall, 21 people sought medical treatment after the poisoning of former GRU Colonel Sergey Skripal and his daughter Yuliya.

Police said the pair were exposed to an unidentified substance.

"He is (a) regular customer, he is so kind and he seems to me an educated person".

Identifying the source of the nerve agent continues to be central to the probe, but Rudd has so far declined to name any potential culprits.

Mrs Rudd had earlier visited Salisbury and the hospital where DS Bailey is receiving treatment.

Meanwhile officials wearing biohazard protective suits were seen working alongside police officers at the London Road Cemetery, where Skripal's wife and son were laid to rest. Entrances to the cemetery were closed off.

Western intelligence services consider Russian Federation a leading suspect based on previous attacks that used a similar substance and method, a Western intelligence official told CNN.

Moscow has reacted angrily to the accusations it was involved, with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Friday dismissing them as baseless "propaganda".

Rudd visited several of the sites cordoned off by investigators before heading to Salisbury District Hospital.

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has been pointing the finger at Moscow.

Nearly 200 specialists from the RAF and Marines began removing contaminated materials to be sent for analysis at the nearby Porton Down defence laboratory, seven days after the attempted assassination of Sergei Skripal, the Russian double agent.

Marina Litvinenko said Russians living in the United Kingdom feel "insecure and very unsafe" and that the United Kingdom government should do more to protect those who have claimed political asylum.

A British public inquiry said Litvinenko's killing had probably been approved by Russian President Vladimir Putin and carried out by two Russians, Dmitry Kovtun and Andrei Lugovoy.

Britain has said it will respond robustly if evidence shows Russian Federation was behind the Salisbury poisoning. "There is nothing soft about the UK's response to any sort of state activity in this country", she told BBC radio.

"What we see is only news reports ... saying that if it is Russian Federation, then a response is going to be given that Russian Federation is going to remember forever", Mr Lavrov said during a visit to Addis Ababa.
