  • Nun in legal dispute with Katy Perry collapses and dies in court

Hollister bought the property with the help of sisters Rita Callahan and Catherine Rose Holzman from the Immaculate Heart of Mary who claimed they had the authority to sell it. A legal battle involving Katy Perry and a group of nuns is like the premise for a Sick Sad World bit from Daria (shout out to my 90's boys out there) and has now at least in part been linked to one nun's death.

Hours before her death she spoke to U.S. news channel Fox 11 LA, decrying the ruling that cleared the way for the sale of the property to Perry. 'She had nothing to do with forcing herself on us'. They initially wanted to sell it to a local businesswoman, Dana Hollister, who wanted to turn it into a boutique hotel while promising to preserve the convent itself. It then led to the archdiocese and nuns fighting over whether Hollister, who offered about $10 million, was a suitable buyer against Perry, who offered $14.5 million for the property.

However, in 2016, a judge ruled the sale to the entrepreneur was invalid.

The case has been put on hold following the nun's death, although they had previously appealed to Pope Francis directly to give them their convent back.

Archbishop Jose H. Gomez says Sister Catherine Rose Holzman died Friday. "We extend our prayers today to the Immaculate Heart of Mary community and to all her friends and loved ones", a statement from the archdiocese read. They also claimed to possess property documents.

While walking into court on Friday, Holzman was interviewed by Fox 11 and said "To Katy Perry, please stop".

"It's not doing anyone any good except hurting a lot of people".

Perry reportedly visited the nuns to win them over, and is said to have shown them her tattoo of Jesus and sung a hymn for them.

In December 2017, a judge order Hollister to pay nearly $10 million in compensatory damages to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and Katy for attempting to interfere with the proposed sale.
