  • No fair: Florida is trying to opt out of Daylight Saving Time clock changes

Lawmakers in Florida are exhausted of the whole "fall back" and "spring forward" rigamarole. There were only two dissenters.

While the rest of the country prepares for Daylight Saving Time on March 11th, Florida is willing to stay there all year round.

The bill now goes to the desk of Gov. Rick Scott - but it's far from a done deal after that. But even if he approves, the change "will literally take an act of Congress", notes CNN. To many a minor annoyance or a bit of relief, Daylight Saving Time reminds us of the sun's daily effect on our lives and tells us spring is on its way.

The Uniform Time Act of 1966 provided the basic framework for alternating between Daylight Saving Time and Standard Time, now observed in the United States.

A time whose time has passed? And numerous commonly offered rationales for daylight saving time (yes, it's "saving", not "savings") no longer hold true.

Lawmakers in the Sunshine State passed a bill this week that would keep year-round daylight saving time, offering residents and visitors an extra hour of daylight in the evenings during the winter months.

A 2017 Boston University Medical Center study revealed the shift to Daylight Savings Time contributes to higher miscarriage rates in in vitro fertilization (IVF) patients.

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 changed when we switch the clocks.
