Nance: Dunk MachineIn his first start for the Cavs, Larry Nance Jr. was all over the place, throwing down five first-half dunks. He said he spoke with his teammates about what happened but not with Jones, a former National Basketball Association player who has been on Tyronn Lue's staff for two seasons.

James finished with 25 points, 15 assists and 10 rebounds - his 13th triple-double this season - but Cleveland's lack of a dependable No. 2 scorer with Kevin Love out with a broken left hand continues to be a major problem.

If the Cavs manage to trade away Tristan Thompson and JR Smith, they can clear enough cap space to offer Paul George a major contract and he's going to be extremely tempted to ink his signature on.

Nance posted career highs with 22 points and 15 rebounds in his first start for Cleveland, and the Cavaliers closed a disappointing five-game homestand on a positive note with a 112-90 win Monday night over the Detroit Pistons, who haven't won on the road in almost two months.

Rudy Gobert had another double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Jazz.

Thompson scored 12 points and had seven rebounds in 28 minutes against the Nuggets.

Smith's had a challenging season on the floor - his 8.3 point average is his lowest since 2005 and he's making only 39 percent his shots - and his blowup at Jones could be the result of pent-up frustration.

James led the way, but it was Nance who helped negate Drummond and Detroit's size advantage with several big plays. Both received technicals. Neither seemed a match for Nance on this night.

Cleveland outscored Detroit 58-41 after halftime.

Five weeks ago to the day, the Detroit Pistons acquired Blake Griffin; the following night, the team rolled Cleveland 125-114 without their new forward in the lineup. James made his first four shots (three of them 3s) and erupted for 15 points in the quarter.

The Blazers led by 10 early in the fourth quarter but Westbrook converted a three-point play after Pat Connaughton was called for goaltending, pulling the Thunder to 95-90. The elder Nance had 149 20-point games for Cleveland.

Cavaliers: J.R. Smith had another head-scratching game, failing to score in 22 minutes. He has played all 82 games for 4 straight seasons from 2012-2016 and at one point had played 447 consecutive games before a thumb injury broke his streak and kept him out for a few games previous year. He also contributed seven boards and seven assists in the win.

Jordan Clarkson and Kyle Korver tallied 11 points apiece - each player (plus Ante Zizic, in his longest run of the season) finishing with six rebounds off the bench.
