  • Delta Isn't Backing Down From Cutting Ties With NRA

Our people and our customers have a wide range of views on how to increase safety in our schools and public places, and we are not taking sides.

In his memo, Bastian sought to strike a balance - voicing support for the Second Amendment while saying it wanted to remove any "implied affiliation with the NRA".

Cagle wrote: "We can not continue to allow large companies to treat conservatives differently than other customers". The state House and Senate voted Thursday to pass a broad tax bill after GOP lawmakers eliminated language that would have exempted jet fuel from sales taxes. That's extremely unlikely, but speaks to just how much damage could follow from Georgia's use of tax policy to side with the NRA against business.

But Delta's decision has been more costly.

Other Republicans weren't so quiet.

"Unfortunately, we're looking at political gamesmanship, and trying to send ultraconservative messages for the Republican primary", Henson said. He is the candidate for governor who has good sense.

I've said it before and it has been proven true again.

In the wake of the deadly massacre, more than a dozen USA businesses, including Metlife Insurance, car-rental companies Hertz, Avis and Enterprise, hotel companies Best Western and Wyndham, as well as United Airlines have ended NRA partnerships since the school shooting.

Delta now has its base in Atlanta and is one of Georgia's biggest employers.

But Delta's decision last weekend to stop the discounted fares for the NRA triggered a showdown with pro-gun Republican lawmakers in Georgia. In a statement, he said: "Businesses have every legal right to make their own decisions, but the Republican majority in our state legislature also has every right to govern guided by our principles". That tax exemption would have saved Delta an estimated $40 million in taxes, according to Business Insider.

The incident, in which 17 people died, reopened the gun debate in the United States and has prompted several companies to end their relationships with the NRA.

Nathan Deal has criticized the controversy over the tax break, but also previously said he plans to sign the bill. If something like lawmakers reneging on a tax break promise can happen to Delta, which is as iconic in this state as red clay, it could be even worse for a newcomer to town, especially since their Atlanta roots would be shallower than those of your average Georgia pine tree.

Cagle is a front-runner in his race to be Georgia's next Governor.

He told us he is proud of his lifelong membership in the NRA.

The Senate passed the tax measure 44-10, with Democrats accounting for all of the no votes. Nikema Williams of Atlanta, who applauded companies that have taken swift action on guns after the Florida tragedy.

The Republican-controlled legislature of the USA state of Georgia voted on Thursday to pass a sweeping tax bill that scrapped a jet-fuel tax that directly benefited Delta Airlines, in retaliation over the company's NRA policy.

"I think if we were able to bring those jobs here, then personal politics would be set aside", he said.
