No details were given on when the meeting will be held or who will attend, in the announcement by Zhang Yesui, spokesman for China's top legislature and ambassador to the US from 2009 to 2012.

China has no desire to overturn the existing global order and its increasingly powerful military does not constitute a threat to others, Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and National People's Congress (NPC) spokesman Zhang Yesui (張業遂) said yesterday.

Zhang said that friction in Sino-U.S. trade is unsurprising given the staggering volume of bilateral trade, which stood at $580 billion at the end of past year.

Thousands of Chinese delegates will begin meeting in Beijing on Monday for the annual session of country's top legislature, which will stretch for 16 days this year.

The two nations agree to continue dialogue in Beijing, Zhang Yesui said at a briefing, without giving a timetable or names of officials to attend.

China said the amendments are "conducive" to the modernization of its socialist model, to mirror the charters of the Communist Party and the People's Liberation Army, both also headed by Xi Jinping, the country's president.

Zhang, who previously served as an ambassador to the USA, said policies "made on the basis of mistaken judgments" could hurt relations.

Trump, a successful businessman before his presidency, shrugged off the threats, saying that "trade wars are good, and easy to win".

Since his election campaign in 2016, US President Donald Trump has been criticizing US trade partners over their alleged dumping practices and calling for the renegotiation of trade agreements with many countries to tackle losses of manufacturing jobs in the United States.

However, he insisted that cooperation was the only way to resolve those differences, citing the example of Chinese top economic adviser Liu He's visit to Washington this week for a series of meetings with United States government officials.

China has been the main target of Trump's ire over the U.S. trade deficit since his presidential campaign, but its steel and aluminium exports to the United States are minimal.

"Thanks to joint efforts from all parties, this initiative is being turned into actions from a concept, and being translated into reality from a vision", Zhang said.
