Emily Sweeney, an American luge athlete, had a scary-looking crash at the Winter Olympics on Tuesday.

The American lost control midway through her run and proceeded to bounce off the walls in terrifying fashion.

Her sled turned sideways.

Sweeney was conscious, and she eventually got up and walked off the ice under her own power, though she was moving gingerly.

Just a horrifying crash by Emily Sweeney.

"Oh no, that's bad, you really hate to see that, where the athlete's feet go higher than her head".

"The final run of women's singles luge is now ongoing, but it has been marred by a very scary moment, as USA's Emily Sweeney suffered a nasty crash and did not finish".

The Connecticut-native was taken to a hospital.

After the conclusion of the event she reappeared at the track flanked by several members of USA Luge and while she didn't stop for questions she did say, "I'm fine, I'm OK".

"I'm going to go get an X-ray on my back after this, but I wanted to have the last word". Yeah, it's a bummer, for sure, and I know I'm better than that, but here we are. She narrowly missed a spot at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. "It's pretty crushing", she said after the crash. Her dad was also spotted with a celebratory beer after his daughter's triumph, which is, as the saying goes, the ultimate "dad move".

After a delay of approximately 10 minutes, competition resumed and Germany's Natalie Geisenberger won the gold medal, as she did in Sochi four years earlier.
