Robert Whittaker addresses Yoel Romero on Twitter after UFC 221

While Romero stunned Rockhold throughout the bout, the former wasn't fazed by Rockhold's strikes but nearly had to quit the fight in between rounds owing to the aforementioned broken leg. But when it comes down to it, Romero missed weight and as impressive as the performance was against Rockhold, it's hard to reward him for coming in at 187.7lbs, 2.7lbs above the 185lbs middleweight title fight limit. Unfortunately, he didn't earn the interim title, because he failed to make weight the night before.
Already ranked as the division's number-one contender, Romero's victory is likely to see him installed as the next challenger for the UFC middleweight title, held by Australian Robert Whittaker, who recorded a unanimous decision victory over the Cuban in July previous year.
Despite tipping the scales heavy, Romero is set to face full-champion Whittaker as confirmed by Dana White who spoke at the post-fight press conference.
The first Whittaker-Romero went the distance and Whittaker won a unanimous decision in a bout that was named Fight of the Year. So you have to wonder if maybe we've seen the last of Rockhold competing as a middleweight. But injuries are part of the sport and Whittaker got injured.
If Romero and Whittaker do indeed fight again, it'll be a rematch of their 2017 bout at UFC 213.
The bad news, however, is that it's unclear whether Romero will be healthy enough to get into the Octagon anytime soon.

I'm the wrestler, I'm the judoka master champ, and I'm going to drag him to where I want to be. The problem is no one else stands out as the next contender in line. Both camps hesitated to accept the amended terms, which called for Rockhold to get 30 percent of Romero's purse and called for only Rockhold to fight for the interim belt. "It messed up my plans for the weight cut a little bit".
