India terror attack: three terrorists neutralised

Two Junior Commissioned Officers (JFOs) have been killed and six others, including a colonel and a girl, wounded in the predawn terror attack and subsequent fighting.

Reports claim one Junior Commissioned Officer has been killed in the gunfight.

While the minister did not specify the group affiliation of the militants who carried out the attack, officials said Jaish-e-Mohammed militants were behind the terror strike. The Union Minister Rajnath Singh commented that the Armed Forces were doing their duties effectively and found it inappropriate to comment on the attack. "The Director General of Police has apprised him of the situation", an official Ministry tweet added. Elite para commandos of the Indian Army have been called in to handle the operations on ground zero while Army helicopters were carrying out aerial reconnaissance of the whole area to keep a vigil on the movement of the holed-up terrorists in the built-up area. When the sentry bunker was sacked upon, the soldiers retaliated.

The residential quarters housed women and children as well. All the families have been evacuated.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, an official from the civil administration said the nearby schools had been closed as a precautionary measure and security was beefed up across the area.

In December a year ago, a similar attack on highly fortified paramilitary camp in the region ended with killing of five Central Reserve Police Force personnel and three militants.

The attack incidentally occurred after the death anniversary of Afzal Guru, who died in Tihar jail. At least, two persons were injured in security forces' pellet firing on protesters.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri informed the Assembly that Subedar Maganlal and Subedar Mohammed Ashraf were killed in the attack by the group of militants. The daughter of another JCO is among the injured.

The audacious attack began around 4.50am.

"The army has killed two militants in the ongoing operations inside the camp", an army official told Xinhua.

In the initial attack, Subedar Madan Lal Chowdhry, his daughter, Neha, and Lance Naik Bahadur Singh were injured.

The injured included four Army personnel and five women and children.

She appealed to all sections of society to stand together in such a sensitive time and defeat the designs of the perpetrators who also want to divide people under different names besides creating chaos in the society and the state.

The militants hurled grenades and unleashed heavy volume of automatic gunfire. The combing operation is now underway, Jammu IGP SD Singh Jamwal said.

"The fire was retaliated".
