NBA Injury Report: Knicks Kristaps Porzingis Out With Torn ACL

  • Kristaps Porzingis knee

Porzingis suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during the Knicks' 103-89 home loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT). Unfortunately, unless the rest of your leaguemates are asleep at the wheel, you aren't going to find someone on the waiver wire who's matching the 7-footer's 22.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, league-leading 2.4 blocks and 1.9 triples. A Knicks team clinging to an outside hope of pushing for the East's final postseason spot, and a fan base that's always been desperate for a reason to believe, will hope for a similar outcome this time, and wait with bated breath on the results of the MRI Porzingis will undergo later Tuesday.

Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine tore his ACL while playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves on February 3, 2017, but only made his return to the court last month on January 13.

The two played together for two seasons on the Knicks. What if NY is on his radar this summer? Tim Hardaway Jr., who missed 20 games earlier this season with a stress injury in his left leg, departed early against Milwaukee after Giannis Antetokounmpo accidentally kicked him in said leg, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post. He had already missed seven games this season and thirty-three games overall in his career.

"Every person's a little different in how they come back and respond", Perry said.

After getting the results of his MRI exam late Tuesday, Porzingis came back to the Garden to meet with Knicks brass, coach Jeff Hornacek and teammate Courtney Lee, who was still around getting treatment. Perry said Porzingis' injury had "no connection" to his decision to trade Hernangomez.

"Was hoping for the best news when I saw the play after the game", LeBron James wrote on Twitter.

The Knicks scored the next nine points and pulled within 12 points on a pair of occasions in the final quarter, but never got any closer.

So now the Knicks will wait - for Porzingis to get healthy, for the ping-pong balls to bounce as they may, for the next calendar year to go by.

This is a long-awaited development, as Knicks fans have been calling for the younger generation of players to receive more significant roles for weeks on end.

Into that breach stepped Kristaps Porzingis, the most unlikely of saviors to enter The World's Most Famous Arena.

"Setback for a major comeback!" the National Basketball Players Association tweeted, with a photo of Porzingis.

The only silver lining for the Knicks is making the playoffs weren't expected and the team has all their draft picks and can possibly become sellers before the Thursday's trade deadline.
