  • Twitter Prepares Snapchat-Like Feature for Easy Video Sharing

Shares of Snapchat parent Snap fell more than 5% Thursday, bottoming out at $13.72, after a Bloomberg report said Twitter was working on a "Snapchat-style" video product to speed up multimedia sharing on its app.

"Twitter declined to comment".

Snapchat, on the other hand, has been locked in intense competition with Facebook and its Instagram unit over attracting new users.

Posting videos or pictures to Twitter involves opening the app, clicking on the compose button and then the camera button, taking the video or picture, and then clicking tweet.

Snapchat is one of the few apps that automatically activates a camera feature when the app is opened.

Sources say that the design of the new feature hasn't been finalized, nor is there any information as to when the update will be rolled out to the Twitter iOS and Android apps. This feature would let users post their Snap stories across the web. The report also does not specify whether videos posted would be ephemeral, though viral videos are often part of Twitter's culture, so disappearing content seems like an unlikely move for the social network.

The design isn't finalized and no debut timing was revealed, but the feature now involves a camera-focused tool that makes it easier to post videos on Twitter. Users will then have to attach the video/photo to their tweet and tap the tweet button to send it out. Bloomberg reports that Twitter wants to change this now by reducing the number of steps it takes to tweet a video or broadcast live. The current video process is cumbersome, especially compared to Snapchat which opens directly on the camera lens interface. Dorsey in the past has praised Snapchat, calling the app "very modern" and admitting that can be "confusing".

Now in the Twitter app, getting to your camera is a two-step process.
