  • Cumbria to be battered by snow, ice and wind

"Now it is showers we are talking about, so not everywhere will see the snow, but some places could really see several centimetres across northern Britain, even at low levels".

The Met Office issued a yellow "be aware" weather warning for snow, covering Dundee, from 6pm on Monday.

'Some roads and pavements will turn icy, with an increased likelihood of some accidents and injuries'.

Once this low has nipped off towards Europe, the United Kingdom will be back in the chilly westerly flow and once again the wintry showers will set in, so we have another Snow and Ice Be Aware warning for Thursday into Friday, over NW half of the UK.

"Delays or cancellations are possible to rail and air travel".

Luke Miall, a Met Office forecaster, said: 'The forecast for today is it's likely to become a bit more wintry so we could be seeing snow for many areas, with northern and western areas seeing frequent showers. Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

Met Éireann has also issued a fourth weather warning for counties Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick of high seas affecting the Atlantic seaboard increasing the risk of coastal flooding.

A previous weather warning for high winds on Wednesday night is still in place, although it has been updated to say some southern parts could miss the worst of the conditions.

A wide-ranging alert is in place for high winds from 9pm on Wednesday until 1pm on Thursday. Also, damage to roads and properties is also a possibility.

Here are the areas the first warning pertains to; Central, Tayside & Fife, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar, North West England, Northern Ireland, Orkney & Shetland, SW Scotland, Lothian Borders, Strathclyde.

"There may also be more than 15cm over the hills of Northern Ireland, especially in the north".

"The warning is talking about isolated, more exposed areas seeing 80mph, but more widely 60 to 70mph".
