Jon Morosi of MLB.com reported a trade is "imminent" after he and his colleague Jesse Sanchez reported talks were "picking up steam" and had "intensified in the past 24 hours".

Gerrit Cole was drafted by the Pirates with the first overall pick in 2011, and spent the last 5 years as a starter in Pittsburgh.

The Cole rumor is more explicit in terms of names, with Jeff Passan reporting the Pirates and Astros have discussed him as well as prospects Derek Fisher, Kyle Tucker, and Forrest Whitley.

Cole to Houston also would be a tough blow for the New York Yankees, as the New York Daily News reported Monday that the Bronx Bombers landing the one-time All-Star was "inevitable." Remember, the Yankees drafted Cole back in 2008 and were hot after him in December but the deal fell off. Houston and NY are both loaded with possible prospects. It wasn't immediately clear what Pittsburgh will receive in return. During the 2017 season, Cole posted a 4.26 ERA and 1.25 WHIP, while holding a 196:55 K:BB over 203 innings (33 starts). Instead, he will join an Astros staff that already included Dallas Keuchel and Justin Verlander. He is still only 27 years old and has time to mature still. If one gets dealt, they both get dealt in my opinion.

There's been no confirmation from the Pirates about the trade, or compensation.
