The Egyptian has made just five appearances in the Premier League so far this season, with Granit Xhaka, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey all being favoured in central midfield.

West Ham are reportedly in the market for a midfielder with Stoke's Joe Allen and Newcastle's Jonjo Shelvey said to be their other options.

Arsene Wenger says he has not spoken to West Ham with regards to a bid for midfielder Francis Coquelin.

Francis Coquelin has agreed a contract with Valencia.

"It's a possibility but nothing is decided".

The 26-year-old is a target for West Ham too but David Moyes fears the former U21 global prefers a move to over staying in.

Speaking about Coquelin's move, he told Sky Sports: 'I'm happy for him because he's going to go to a team that is challenging at the minute in a very hard league to win.

'He went from, I remember my first game was at Man City and I called him the police officer or something like that because he was shielding everything.

On Wednesday, the reputable RMC Sport in France reports a four-and-a-half year deal has been struck between the two clubs with an announcement expected within the next 24 hours.

In that case, the Frenchman would become Valencia's second addition of the January transfer window following the loan arrival of Luciano Vietto from Atletico Madrid.
