Suspects in death of 4-year-old MI girl captured in Georgia

A MI couple wanted in the death of a four-year-old girl have been captured, according to WXYZ out of Detroit. Fields is also charged as a habitual offender.

They found the girl unresponsive with "obvious" severe burns on her arms and legs.

"Upon arrival, CPR was being administered by family members and officers found the child suffering from severe burns about her extremities", according to a news release.

Two days later, the Washtenaw County Medical Examiner ruled the child's death as a homicide with evidence of multiple traumatic injuries and signs of Battered Child Syndrome.

Police have begun a manhunt for the couple, who are believed to be driving a black 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, with a MI license plate reading DTR1854.

The girl's mother, 24-year-old Candice Renea Diaz, and her boyfriend, 28-year-old Brad Edward Fields, have both been charged with felony murder, second-degree murder, and first-degree child abuse and torture.

If you see Diaz and Fields, you should not confront them but call police. She died shortly thereafter.

"I know we may not have a lot of information at all, but, it just hurts", said Barrett.

The Sumpter Township Police Department said Monday they've been searching for the couple since Saturday.

According to neighbors, Child Protective Services had been to the home several times over the years, but the children were never taken from the home.

Gabrielle Barrett had an upbeat personality and loved the movie Frozen, said her grandfather, Jerry Barrett, 47.

Gabby's family has set up a GoFundMe account for funeral costs.

Gabby's grandmother, Deborah Barrett, described the little girl as a "ball of joy".

This is not the first time Diaz and Fields have been in trouble.
