CBS News anchor John Dickerson will replace Charlie Rose as a co-host on CBS This Morning, the president of CBS News announced Tuesday.

Veteran TV journalist Rose, 76, was sacked by CBS in November after being accused by more than 10 women of sexual misconduct. During the 2016 presidential campaign he moderated CBS News' two presidential debates and interviewed the candidates multiple times.

Dickerson joined CBS News in 2009 as a political analyst and was named host of its Sunday public affairs program "Face the Nation" in 2015.

In a statement, CBS News chief David Rhodes said, in part, "John's impressive track record and strong all-around journalism extends our commitment to real news coverage", adding that incumbent co-hosts "Gayle [King] and Norah [O'Donnell] continue to show tremendous leadership on our morning broadcast each day". Rose apologized for inappropriate behavior but questioned the accuracy of some of the accounts. His mother was Nancy Dickerson, CBS' News' first female correspondent and an associate producer on the first broadcast of "Face the Nation" in 1954.

The move the latest in a series of on-air changes at CBS News.

"This Morning" has the smallest audience of the three main morning shows on US broadcast television with a daily audience of about 3.6 million.

Dickerson will join CBS This Morning as the network continues to recover from Rose's downfall, after the Washington Post and other outlets reported allegations of years of sexual misconduct by Rose against dozens of women in November.

Rhodes said in his memo that he'll be in Washington later this week to begin the process of finding Dickerson's replacement there. Before joining CBS, he covered the George W. Bush administration for Time before moving on to write on politics for Slate. Dickerson will transition from the FACE THE NATION anchor chair in the coming weeks as CBS News prepares to name his successor.
