The Oakland Raiders confirmed today that they interviewed Martin, a former star QB for the Volunteers, for their head coaching vacancy before hiring ESPN analyst Jon Gruden.

The team announced the move Saturday as soon as Gruden finished his.

Each new offseason brought speculation that Gruden might return to the sidelines. I love the players that play it.

The coach also steered clear of discussing any specifics about the nature of the team he's taking over, which is coming off a disappointing 6-10 season, but did heap praise on quarterback Derek Carr.

"I think he's got a huge upside", Gruden said.
