In the book, former aide Steve Bannon questions Mr. Trump's competence.

Trump has threatened a lawsuit against Wolff, and the White House has taken major issue with the accuracy of many of Wolff's assertions, including numerous misidentifications and other components in the book that could have been fact-checked.

Trump continued: "I never interviewed with him in the White House at all; he was never in the Oval Office".

Steve Bannon was only minutes away from attacking "Fire and Fury" author Michael Wolff over quotes attributed to the former White House chief strategist, but he decided not to do so after President Donald Trump attacked him after the release of excerpts from the book, according to a source familiar with the situation.

During a visit to Camp David Saturday, President Donald Trump doubled down on his morning tweets in which he called himself "like, really smart" and "a very stable genius".

Wolff said White House staffers he talked to would say things like "we're not at a 25th Amendment level yet".

Wolff's book, published Friday, paints Trump as a leader who doesn't understand the weight of his office and spends his evenings eating cheeseburgers in bed, watching television, and talking on the phone to old friends.

Bannon, as Wolff wrote, said Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner's attendance at a previous Trump Tower meeting with a Russian lawyer was "treasonous" and "unpatriotic". "He used Sloppy Steve Bannon, who cried when he got fired and begged for his job".

"Well, only because I went to the best colleges or college", the president said.

The president said "actually, throughout my life, my two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart".

Wolff claimed he had a three-hour meeting with the president, which Trump refuted on the basis that it allegedly "didn't exist" except in the author's "imagination". "It's in his imagination", Trump said Saturday.

During the press conference, Trump also addressed recent reports that he had asked for Attorney General Jeff Sessions not to recuse himself from the Russian Federation investigation, saying that "Everything I've done is 100 percent proper".

Wolff reiterated his belief that it is becoming a widespread view that Trump is unfit for presidency, telling BBC Radio in an interview overnight that it's a "very clear emperor-has-no-clothes effect".

"Jake Tapper of Fake News CNN just got destroyed in his interview with Stephen Miller of the Trump Administration".

As Guy noted, Bannon made several colossal errors which predicated his downfall from Trump's so-called grace.

Reagan died in 2004, at age 93, from pneumonia complicated by the Alzheimer's disease that had progressively clouded his mind.
