The host of the long-running gameshow called his injury a "slight medical problem", in a statement posted to YouTube on Thursday.

Trebek posted a video on YouTube explaining he spent two days in the hospital following the surgery and is now recovering at home. As a result, he developed a complication in his brain called a subdural hematoma, which doctors discovered around mid-December 2017.

Production on Jeopardy! has been put on a brief hiatus while longtime host Alex Trebek recuperates from surgery.

Alex Trebek is recovering from brain surgery this week but doing well.

Surgery was performed. After two days in the hospital, I came home to start recovery.

The show's producer, Sony Pictures Entertainment, said in a statement that Trebek was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on December 15 and underwent surgery the following day. Each episode is taped months in advance, so there are plenty of finished episodes that haven't aired yet.

A specific date for his return to on-air hosting duties has yet to be announced.
