  • YouTube star Logan Paul has been forced to apologize after he was slammed for posting a sick video from Japan's'suicide forest that appeared to show a person who had hanged himself from a tree

Logan and his brother Jake Paul grew to fame and notoriety for their boisterous personalities on the micro-video site Vine before moving to YouTube, where they enjoy a subscriber base in the tens of millions - many of whom are pre-teen or teenaged girls.

Mortician and author Caitlin Doughty wrote, "The young person who died was not for Paul- not their body, not their image, not their story". In the clip, Paul and his crew claimed to have come across the incident while exploring the Aokigahara forest, known widely as Japan's "Suicide Forest".

He seems aware that the site is sometimes chosen for suicides, but is surprised to come across what appears to be a body hanging from a tree.

"I want to apologize to the internet", he said in the new video. There's a lot of things I should have done differently, but I didn't.

By Tuesday, the backlash had become so intense that he created a video apology saying "I made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgment. the reactions you saw in that tape were raw and unfiltered". He also acknowledged that his actions were unacceptable, and asked fans not to defend him.

The millionaire vlogger, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, was forced to apologise himself last September when he used an offensive racist slur while live-streaming himself playing a video game. "I think this definitely marks a moment in YouTube history, because I'm pretty sure this has never happened to anyone on YouTube ever". "Call the police, bro", said Paul, who then approached the body to get a close-up.

"I made a huge mistake, I don't expect to be forgiven". I'm ashamed of myself. I should have put the cameras down and stopped recording what we were going through. "I will be better". "I will be better".

Did we just find a dead person in the suicide forest hanging? Logan asked a man who appeared to be guiding them through the forest in the shocking video

"What, you never stand next to a dead guy", Paul relplies.

Stephen Guino, 38, from Skelmersdale in West Lancashire, said the episode had been seen by his seven-year-old daughter, who had thought it was a joke.

"YouTube prohibits violent or gory content posted in a shocking, sensational or disrespectful manner".

The statement continues: "If a video is graphic, it can only remain on the site when supported by appropriate educational or documentary information and in some cases it will be age-gated".

Paul became a trending topic on Twitter late Monday night, with celebrities and other YouTubers joining others on the Internet criticizing him for even posting the video that jokes about suicide.

YouTube also pointed out that it partners with groups such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline "to provide educational resources that are incorporated in our YouTube Safety Center".

Some called for Paul to donate his earnings from YouTube to suicide prevention organizations. Japan has a relatively high rate of suicides, with more than 21,000 a year, according to government data. The Mount Fuji forest has been known for suicides for decades because people can easily get lost there, and know they won't be found for a long time.
