  • Customs Computer Outage CBP Customs and Border Protection Airports Travel Long Lines

The agency said in a statement that it "experienced a temporary outage with its processing systems at various airports" that began at around 7:30 p.m. and lasted until 9:30 p.m.

The major airports caught up in the technical glitch include JFK Airport in New York, LAX and Miami International Airport.

Kennedy Airport and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport also acknowledged there could be passenger delays.

Sky News Australia and USA media outlets are reporting worldwide airport systems have failed across the country on one of the busiest evenings to travel in the states. All airports are now back on line. "At this time, there is no indication the service disruption was malicious in nature".

DFW travelers told NBC5 they had very little information about what was happening and hundreds of people backed up in line while the computer systems were down.

CBP said it "took immediate action to address the technology disruption". All airports were back on line after wait times for travelers that were longer than usual, it said. "CBP officers continued to process worldwide travellers using alternative procedures at affected airports". Agents were still able to process passengers using an alternative system, albeit at a much slower rate.
