  • New Year: President Buhari To Address Nigerians On Monday

On the occasion of the 2018 New Year, President Muhammadu Buhari will make a national broadcast tomorrow, January 1, 2018 at 7am. Mr. Utov, the proprietor of Fidei Polytechnic, Gboko, died on March 17.

In his New Year message, which was signed by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Yomi Layinka, Ajimobi admitted that the country experienced social and economic challenges in 2017, stressing however that the various programmes and policies of the Federal Government would bring the needed succour to the people in 2018.

The presidency on Saturday tried to explain the inclusion of the dead persons, saying the list was compiled in 2015.

He said the president requested for the submission of 50 names each by the state chapters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2015, which were later compiled by the national secretariat of the party.

The presidential spokesman said the president only chose to revisit the matter recently and therefore directed the new SGF to release the list.

"This list is a historical list".

Shehu however assured Nigerians that nominees who were confirmed dead would be replaced.

The statement added: "As a stalwart of the APC in the South-South, President Buhari believes that the party greatly benefited from the octogenarian's charismatic leadership and wealth of experience as a politician".

"So, the President constituted a new panel chaired by the Vice President".

Efforts to get the spokesman of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Mohammed Nakorji, to comment on the development were not successful.

The president approved the constitution of the Governing Boards of Agencies and Parastatals, under some Ministries, as well as the appointment of eminently qualified Nigerians to fill the Board positions.

The former SGF Babachir Lawal on October 26 that year inaugurated an eight-man committee headed by himself on the reconstitution of the boards.

He said, "These controversies would have been avoided if some people, especially the governors, had not protested".
