  • Censor board moots title change for Padmavati

The board has suggested five modifications to the film including a change in the title to "Padmavat" - and will issue the certificate once the modifications are made.

The decision came after an examining committee meeting by the CBFC was held on December 28.

The CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) recently suggested modifications in controversial movie "Padmavati" including changing its name to Padmavat and giving U/A certificate with 26 cuts.

Other major modifications would include changes in the Ghoomar song, to befit the character of Rani Padmini.

Considering the intense protests against the script of the movie, CBFC had included Arvind Singh from Udaipur, Dr. Chandramani Singh and Prof KK Singh of the Jaipur University as the special committee members to finalise the movie.

Once the required modifications are carried out and final material submitted, the certificate will be issued, CBFC said.

It consisted of the regular committee members, along with CBFC officials and a special advisory panel in presence of Chairman Prasoon Joshi.

According to the officials, the decision was taken keeping in mind the views of the filmmakers and Indian society. The board has also suggested a change in the title to "Padmavat".

Meanwhile, filmmaker Ashoke Pandit said that it will be a great day for the entire film industry and film lovers when the film will be on the screens. Padmavati was supposed to release on 1st December 2017, but thanks to ongoing controversies and some bending of the rules from the side of the makers, the film has been postponed.

"We had given a whole list of objections regarding the movie", Ajit Singh, president of Rajput Karni Sena, told Reuters.

The CBFC's suggestions were also slammed by a Mewar royal, who expressed his disappointment in a letter to Joshi.

The Rajput body's member Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi has said that the film has been cleared "under pressure from the underworld". Bollywood stars Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh play the lead roles.

"Disgusted by the open and blatant use of political muscle to screw filmmakers during elections".

He said that he will continue to protest against "Padmavati" in democratic manner.
