  • Mariah Carey returns to Times Square

The lineup for this year's Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest again includes Mariah Carey, who took to Twitter to lovingly call this year's performance "take 2".

"Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" celebration starts on Sunday, Dec. 31, at 8 p.m. EST on ABC. "I'm going on the same stage at the exact same moment before the ball drops in front of tens of millions of people'".

"Well I haven't seen her yet this year, but I've seen the schedule and there is a rehearsal scheduled, and I'm sure she'll be there", host Ryan Seacrest said in an interview with The Associated Press on Friday.

The Grammy-winning singer's live performance in Times Square on New Year's Eve 2016 was marked by problems. Carey cut her performance short and had social media in a frenzy. She developed a close association with the holiday season through her hit "All I Want for Christmas Is You" and for several years has performed a set of Christmas-themed concerts in NY.

As for how this performance got booked, our sources say both sides wanted it. Mariah is determined to show the world she's up to the task, and the folks at DCP know ratings will spike because no one is discounting the possibility of another train wreck.

McCarthy said at first she thought it would not be a good idea to have Carey return.

She half-heartedly mimed her way through her hit 'Emotions', in what was meant to be the entertainment climax for the throngs waiting hours in the cold in Times Square. Imagine Dragons, Britney Spears, Nick Jonas, Kelly Clarkson and Shawn Mendes are among those slated to perform.

Mariah Carey will look to redeem herself after a catastrophic and headline-grabbing performance at ABC's 2016-2017 New Year's Rockin' Eve show.

"That show is so special to me", Seacrest said. "It's like, how many times would we love a second chance in life?" "We didn't have a sound check, but it's New Year's, baby".
