With racial tensions casting a pall over American football, rap mogul Diddy wants to buy the Carolina Panthers and become the first African American owner of an NFL team.

Kaepernick no longer has a job - retaliation, his supporters say, for his outspoken politics - and President Donald Trump has seized on the issue, demanding that owners punish athletes who do not stand for the anthem.

"These have been some of the most hard days of my 19 years with the Panthers, but I am lifted up by the strong resolve and the commitment our employees have shown to this organization", she said in a statement on the team's website.

The Panthers will probably attract numerous bidders, the source said, because they are thought to be well-run and in a decent market on the East Coast.

Richardson is selling the team amid allegations of workplace misconduct, which reportedly include "sexually suggestive language and behavior" and at least on one occasion, a racial slur.

Kaepernick is not the only professional athlete who is keen to be a part of Panthers ownership as he joins Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, who expressed interest by tweeting in response to Diddy, "I want in!"

When Jerry Richardson bought the Carolina Panthers in 1993, he paid $206 million.

No word on how that sits with current QB Cam Newton.

Richardson has an estimated net worth over $1.1 billion. Let's look at these gentlemens' net worth and consider the economics of whether they could mount a successful purchase of an National Football League team.

The team owner announced the move in a letter to fans Sunday night, just hours after a report accused him of sexual harassment.

He also said in an Instagram post that he would "immediately address the Colin Kaepernick situation and put him in the running for next year's starting quarterback".

"I know the allegations are serious". That investigation was then taken over by the NFL.

Sterling was essentially forced to sell the Los Angeles Clippers.
