  • From Mohamed Salah to Shadia, Google releases Egypt's “Year in Search”

Lauer, who was recently accused of sexual harassment, comes in second on the top 10 list for overall most searched items on Google this year, reported Variety. Hurricane Irma was the top search for both global and U.S. users.

Besides YouTube, Google's other major yearly recap is for Search. Meanwhile, Google has also posted the global and national list of top searches.

2017 was a wild ride in the sports world, and Google Trends was quick to pick up on the biggest roller coasters in sports.

Meanwhile, throughout the year's various natural disasters, people searched "how to help" more than ever before.

Following close behind Lauer were rock star Tom Petty, who died in October, the Super Bowl and the Las Vegas massacre.

With the new year just around the corner, Google has now published its 2017 Year in Search and it offers valuable insights of the things that caught users' attention most in 2017.

In the tech category, the iPhone 8, iPhone X and Nintendo Switch were at the top of the category.

Over on the TV side, South Africans were most interested in Netflix's 13 Reasons Why and HBO's Game of Thrones.

The internet giant has released its annual round up of what people around the world have been typing into its search engine and in the south of Ireland it's a mixture of the mundane (How to bleed radiators?), the worthy (How to register to vote? and What is bitcoin?) and the ridiculous (How to make slime?).

More endearing, however, is the fact that people conducted a lot of searches on how to help in various situations. The question was also the most searched for around the world in 2017.

The Golden Retriever was the most searched dog breed in the United States, followed by the Poodle and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
