The snow-storms in Britain have grounded flights, closed roads and left whole towns without power.

British Airways planes have been hit by problems at Heathrow caused by adverse weather. A number of outbound and inbound flights have been delayed.

The M1 motorway, one of the most important highways in the country, remained closed on Sunday on a stretch in Leicestershire due to broken-down vehicles.

London Heathrow airport is warning travellers to be wary of delays and cancellations, with British Airways telling travelers via its Twitter feed they can claim a refund or rebook their journey, rather than flying on December 11 or 12. Passengers waited for hours in lines that wound through the airport to speak with airline representatives.

Ireland West Airport is open for business however, after specialist equipment was deployed to clear snow from the runway this morning. "Passengers were taken from Manchester back to Birmingham on coaches".

"We have put a flexible re-booking policy in place so that all customers due to fly from Heathrow today, Sunday December 10 and tomorrow, Monday December 11 can re-book to travel on alternative flights until Monday December 18".

Meanwhile, long-haul inbound flights from Dubai, Mumbai and NY landed at Paris, Frankfurt and Dublin respectively, the Independent reported.
