Trump's eldest son faces questions in Congress about Russian Federation

His Wednesday session with the House committee was longer and more expansive, and it was the first opportunity elected lawmakers have had to ask Trump Jr. questions directly, instead of leaving that to investigative staff.

Donald Trump Jr. should be forced to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee-and it should be public, not behind closed doors, a key Democrat on the panel said Tuesday.

Donald Trump Jr. cited attorney-client privilege Wednesday to avoid divulging to the House Intelligence Committee his conversations with his father about a meeting he took with individuals connected to the Russian government in 2016.

Jacobovitz noted this question of what Trump knew/when is also coming at a time when at least one of Trump's lawyers is shifting the president's defense from: He didn't to anything wrong to the more fanciful He can't be charged for doing anything wrong.

Congressional investigators have uncovered emails that indicate parties involved in the June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower had subsequent communication after their summit, CNN reported Thursday.

But according to CNN, the Veselnitskaya meeting, and how the White House tried to explain it away as a discussion about USA adoption of Russian orphans, was one focus of the questioning.

The sources tell ABC News that the committee's questions focused on what information was exchanged during the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting in New York City, and the president's oldest son indicated the short gathering did not produce any information and ended quickly.

Goldstone was thrust into the middle of the Trump-Russia story earlier this year when the Trump Tower meeting of Trump Jr.; Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner; former campaign chairman Paul Manafort; and Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya was revealed.

Trump Jr. and the other meeting attendees have maintained that the meeting was instead focused on USA sanctions against Russian Federation, rather than dirt on Clinton.

"We will be following up with his counsel", Schiff said.

Democrats on the committee have repeatedly complained after panel interviews that the majority, who unilaterally have the power to issue subpoenas, has failed to press witnesses into answering questions that they want answered. Other Trump aides denied a Washington Post report that Trump "dictated" the statement to his son aboard Air Force One.

Veselnitskaya denies ever having such information and wrote in the letter released this week that Trump Jr. misunderstood the goal of the meeting because of Goldstone's "roguish letters" setting it up. "Counsel made a claim of attorney-client privilege". In my view, there is no attorney-client privilege that protects a discussion between father and son.

However, Rep. Mike Conaway, the Texas Republican leading the committee's Russian Federation investigation, did not express the same concerns as Schiff about Trump Jr.'s response.

"Mr Trump was cooperative at all times", Conaway said.
