The hit Starz drama American Gods are losing their showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green as the second season is now in the process of being written.

According to Variety, Green and Fuller wanted to increase the budget for season two, which Starz committed to in May, despite word from sources that the cost of upcoming episodes was already close to $10 million each.

Prior to the beginning of production on Season 2, American Gods is looking for a new showrunner.

Don't worry too much about Fuller and Green. Green is shepherding the Netflix drama "Raising Dion" and another TV series project in the works.

After hitting an impasse on plans for season two, Fuller and Green opted to bow out.

Fuller and Green created the adaptation of Neil Gaiman's 2001 novel three years ago with it finally premiering this year.

Fuller also was creator/executive/producer/showrunner on CBS All Access' Star Trek Discovery, which he exited abruptly before it went to production.

Toplined by Ian McShane and Ricky Whittle, the first season of the mythological fantasy drama got off to a strong ratings start. They served as executive producers as well as its showrunners.

"American Gods" was renewed by Starz for a second season in May.

"In her review of the first season for Variety, critic Sonia Saraiya wrote, "['American Gods'] is a sprawling, handsome show that is fascinating, brilliantly executed, and rather hard to follow.

American Gods is set to return spring 2018 on Starz.
