Ivanka, whose clothing business has come under scrutiny for low wages and unsuitable working conditions, said despite the soaring rate of female entrepreneurs, women still faced steep obstacles to starting, owning, and growing their businesses.

The three-day event, being co-hosted here by the U.S. and India, is being attended by 1,500 entrepreneurs, investors and eco-system supporters from 159 countries.

Senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday said that US President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka's compliment about India lifting 130 million of its citizens out of poverty referred to the achievement of the previous UPA government.

Recently, Trump acknowledged India as a true friend of the White House.

The annual entrepreneurship conference will focus on the theme this year of "Women first, prosperity for all", and involves networking, mentoring and workshops.

With barely few hours to go for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES-2017) to open, a festive atmosphere pervades the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), the venue playing host to the three-day event.People of different nationalities, from across the world, have been trickling in since morning, bring along warmth, vibrance and enthusiasm to the colourfully decked up convention centre and neighbourhood.Within minutes of their arrival, numerous participants got into networking, the foundations of which were laid over the mobile app GES "17 developed for the Summit".

Her India visit has made headlines but questions have been raised if she is the right person to talk about empowering women.

In a first for the event, women will represent 52 percent of the attendees.

Ivanka Trump, a woman entrepreneur herself, said she was excited to see so many women entrepreneurs under one roof.

"Just consider, if India closes the labour-force gender gap by half, your economy could grow by over $150 billion in the next three years", she said. This facility would provide access to capital, networks, and mentorship for women in developing countries, she said. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, will be addressing the summit for the inaugural day, along with Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. "The US Small Business Administration, for example, increased its lending to women by over 500 million dollars this year alone", she emphasised.

But she was a good soldier in India.
