Trump has targeted CNN in the past too calling it "fake news" because of its coverage of his presidential campaign and administration.

In the tweet, the president once again decries CNN as fake news, this time arguing that CNN International "represents our Nation to the world very poorly".

The heated remarks from Trump come as CNN posted comments by former U.S. attorney Preet Bharara, who said Sunday that it was "likely" Trump's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, is in discussions with special counsel Robert Mueller about cooperating with his ongoing investigation into so-called "Russian meddling" in last year's election.

"Journalists are human, but the ones charged with straight news reporting should not cover Trump more favorably if he says nice things about their network or less favorably if he says mean things", reporter Callum Borchers writes in his analysis. "The outside world does not see the truth from them!" said Trump from his Mar-a-Lago golf resort in Florida.

The takeaway? Twitter thinks Trump's continuous threats toward CNN aren't just a nuisance - they're a blow to principles of free speech and press freedom.

The victor of this imaginary contest would receive the "fake news trophy" that could be proudly displayed among other awards. CNN's Christiane Amanpour would know - she tweeted a video of herself running away from the sound of bullets while reporting overseas.

CNN senior worldwide correspondent Clarissa Ward followed that up by highlighting that she was anxious that the president's words could have a perilous impact on journalists in hostile areas of the world.

Russian president Vladimir Putin recently signed a law that will make foreign media outlets like CNN International register as "foreign agents". He also went on a vicious attack against CNN over the weekend.

This is not the first time Comey seems to have tacitly thrown his two cents in on the president's actions. Trump fired him as Federal Bureau of Investigation director in May. Trump said in yet another tweet that resonated around the world.
