  • BREAKING NEWS ECB to investigate allegations of Bairstow headbutt on Bancroft

Half-centuries from Bancroft and fellow opener David Warner saw Australia to 114-0 at the close.

The wicket-keeper is being investigated by the European Central Bank over claims he aimed a butt at Australia ace Bancroft in Perth.

The England Cricket Board are investigating the incident that allegedly occured over three weeks ago at a Perth pub while the English team touched down for a tour match against the Western Australian XI.

England's Ashes tour went from bad to worse when Jonny Bairstow was accused of physical violence.

He plays county cricket for Yorkshire, and made his England Test debut as against West Indies in May 2012.

A spokeswoman for the Australian also declined to comment but Fox Sports News reported that the incident had occurred at the Avenue bar in Perth and that there had been no involvement by police.

When then Australian coach Mickey Arthur became aware of that episode several days later Warner was disciplined and ultimately forced to sit out the first two Tests of the Ashes series that followed, as well as being sent to South Africa to briefly join an Australia A tour.

Bancroft wasn't yet named in the Australian squad for the five-match Ashes series at the time of the incident.

Bancroft, who is from Western Australia, lives in Perth. Bancroft is a resident of Perth while the England team was in Perth for their first practice game of the tour.

They had arrived in Australia with questions having been raised, including by ex-England opener Michael Vaughan, about their team culture following the barrage of punches thrown by Stokes in the hours after a one-day worldwide against the West Indies in September.

AAP understands Bancroft has discussed the matter with team management, who are satisfied he did no wrong in the scrap.

The ECB said there was no report of any incident from the venue, security or police and no injury reported.

Another source told Sportsmail 'Jonny is a rugby man and part of their culture is to bump heads if someone buys them a drink.

The England and Wales Cricket Board says it has spoken to the wicket-keeper over the alleged incident, which happened four weeks ago.

Bairstow indeed was fined by European Central Bank in the fall-out of the Stokes affair along with Liam Plunkett and Jake Ball for being out late - but doing nothing wrong - on the same night that the talisman got involved in a serious altercation.
