Happy Turkey Day! Enjoy the very warm, sunny weather if you have outdoor plans today. And will be watching the thermometer for record high temperatures. Strong winds will also develop in the Bighorn Mountains around the Sheridan, Wyoming area. Southwesterly winds gusting to about 25 miles per hour will shift to the northwest late in the day as a cold front passes over Denver and the Front Range.

A mini heat wave drove Southland temperatures into record territory Wednesday, setting the stage for an uncommonly warm Thanksgiving Day, when more records are possible.

The high in Billings reached 68 by early afternoon on Thursday, besting the previous record of 65 degrees set on November 23, 1942.

Mother Nature will be serving one of the hottest Thanksgivings on record in Southern California, with potentially record-breaking temperatures 25 degrees above normal, said Joe Sirard, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

The record warmest Thanksgiving Day in Billings was 66 degrees on November 26, 1998. It will also be a frigid evening with overnight lows in the mid-20s to lower 30s.

Similar weather is expected on Friday but with some noticeable wind at times.

Our next cold front comes through later Saturday, with partly sunny skies expected ahead of it as temperatures inch up a few more degrees into the low to mid 50s Saturday afternoon, thanks in part to a somewhat brisk but milder southwest breeze. That is still about 10° above seasonal averages. Southwest wind 15 to 25 miles per hour. Winds remain strong it 15 to 25 miles per hour. It will be slightly warmer on Black Friday with highs in the lower 60s.
