  • Former coach Chip Kelly reportedly turns down interest from Nebraska

When UCLA announced the firing of coach Jim Mora Sunday, athletic director Dan Guerrero said "We will not comment on the search or candidates until we announce a hire, and I would remind our passionate supporters that speculation, rumors and innuendo are just that". That's what one report is claiming, at least.

Kelly, however, is considering offers from both University of Florida and UCLA, according to USA Today's George Schroeder. As CBS Sports' own Dennis Dodd wrote Sunday, Kelly is the real superstar coach driving the 2017 silly season, not Jon Gruden. It certainly seemed like something had happened at that point.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that Kelly and UCLA had met to discuss the now open position. It was speculated that Tennessee and Texas A&M were also gunning for Kelly, but as of now, his decision will come down to wearing wither blue and gold or blue and orange.

Kelly has been out of coaching since 2016 after two National Football League stops with the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers were less than successful as he finished 28-35 in the pros. He should be able to instantly bring top recruits to any of the aforementioned schools, which is why teams are pushing to get a deal done before the early signing period in December.

Per Mark Schlabach of ESPN, the head coach is poised to either take the UCLA Bruins or Florida Gators job in the coming days. He guided OR to three Pac-12 Conference titles and an appearance in the national championship game in 2011 while compiling a 46-7 record in four seasons.
