One day after a bombshell Washington Post report alleging sexual harassment against Charlie Rose, the veteran journalist has been fired from CBS.

In the immediate aftermath of the Post's report, CBS News announced it is suspending Rose and PBS said that it would halt distribution of his show.

PBS' announcement that it was terminating its relationship with the host came an hour after CBS News announced it was terminating Rose, who hosted "CBS This Morning" and contributed to "60 Minutes". 'This followed the revelation yesterday of extremely disturbing and intolerable behaviour said to have revolved around his PBS program'.

King said, "This is not the man I know", describing a five-year friendship with Rose that began when they launched the morning show together in 2012.

"There are striking commonalities in the accounts of the women, each of whom described their interactions with Rose in multiple interviews with The Post", the newspaper points out.

Rose, King said, "doesn't get a pass, because I can't stop thinking about the anguish of these women. that and the pain that they're going through".

SUNY Oswego says it is considering revoking Charlie Rose's honorary degree after the longtime news anchor was accused of sexual misconduct by more than a dozen women. Rose's PBS show is filmed at the Bloomberg LP headquarters, making three major media organizations tied up in the latest harassment scandal. "I am greatly embarrassed", he said.

NEW YORK, NY - MAY 17: Norah O'Donnell, Charlie Rose and Gayle King attend the 2017 CBS Upfront on May 17, 2017 in New York City.

David Rhodes, president of CBS News, tweeted a statement saying Rose's "termination" is effective immediately. "He's toast", said one off-screen voice.

"Most of the women said Rose alternated between fury and flattery in his interactions with them".

"I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that, though I do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate", said Rose. "Both my son and my daughter called me; Oprah called me and said, 'Are you OK?' I am not OK".

"And I'm really struggling because how do you, what do you say when someone that you deeply care about has done something that is so terrible", King said. "I failed. It is crushing".

"I have learned a great deal as a result of these events, and I hope others will too".

Rose said he had now "come to a profound new respect for women and their lives".
