Actor David Cassidy is now hospitalized in Florida in critical condition with organ failure, his rep confirmed to ABC News.

The singer is suffering from kidney failure and needs a liver transplant, according to at least one report.

Cassidy reportedly checked into a Florida hospital three days ago, and his family has been told to "prepare for the worst".

After appearing as Keith Partridge on the hit series "The Partridge Family" from 1970 to 1974, he went on to produce several successful albums and appear on TV shows including "David Cassidy - Man Undercover".

Cassidy announced early this year he had been diagnosed with dementia.

The former teen heartthrob, now 67, is "currently conscious and surrounded by family", the rep notes.

"I was in denial", Cassidy said, "but a part of me always knew this was coming". I want to enjoy life'.

He is the stepson of actress and fellow The Partridge Family star, Shirley Jones.

After his own diagnosis, the performer made the decision to stop touring as a musician so that he could concentrate on his health.
