  • Trump Tells UCLA Students Released From China To

On Wednesday, all three admitted their guilt at a news conference in Los Angeles, one day after returning home.

UCLA freshmen LiAngelo Ball, Jalen Hill and Cody Riley were swarmed by reporters at Los Angeles International Airport as the trio returned to the USA from China, where they were arrested for shoplifting.

The three, Jalen Hill and Cody Riley and LiAngelo Ball - younger brother of Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball - also apologized to their families and their school, while thanking the Chinese cops for treating them well.

The flight is en route to Los Angeles.

The team was in China for their season opener against Georgia Tech when the alleged theft happened.

Trump personally asked the president of China to release the trio, who were held for allegedly shoplifting expensive Louis Vuitton sunglasses.

Trump told reporters Tuesday that Xi had been helpful in working to resolve the case.

The three players are expected to speak to the media Wednesday in Los Angeles.

An anonymous US official told The Washington Post that after Trump brought the situation up, Xi said he would ensure fair treatment and expeditious legal processing for the players. After Williams said they should be suspended for "a couple of games", adding, "We're talking about kids", Greenberg exclaimed, "I don't care about "kids"!"

School officials said the charges were withdrawn by Chinese authorities after the players admitted guilt.

"I want to be clear that we take seriously any violations of the law", he said. "In this particular case, both Athletics and the Office of Student Conduct will review this incident and guide any action with respect to the involved students".

Since the matter did not occur on the court, it would be up to UCLA whether the players will be punished, Scott said. He said such proceedings would be confidential.

It looks like LiAngelo Ball & his two UCLA teammates who were detained an extra week in China have finally landed back home on U.S soil.

Ball, Hill and Riley were released on bail last week, after getting arrested over allegations of shoplifting, NPR reported.
