Former President Barack Obama has arrived in Chicago for jury duty.

As local media reported that Obama left his house in the Kenwood neighbourhood on the Chicago's South Side to report for jury duty Wednesday, other prospective jurors took photographs of their summonses to prove they too have been called.

Chicago is also where the future Obama presidential center will be built, near the former leader's home in the southern part of the city. Palmer joked. Would-be jurors were excited by the prospect of serving alongside the former president. "No one is excused", Evans said after Obama's departure.

No longer the world's most powerful politician, Obama approached the court like an ordinary American waiting to carry out his civic duty. Hill said that the former president would donate it to Cook County. "If the former president can come, anyone can come", he continued.

Obama, who now resides in Washington, D.C., has been active in various endeavors for his new Obama Foundation, and has also teamed with the other living former presidents in raising money for hurricane victims in Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico.

Obama is the highest-ranking former public official to be called to jury duty in Chicago.

Obama is in line to be paid the same $17.20 a day that others receive for reporting for jury duty. However people can be dismissed for jury due to economic hardship or if they work full time for the army, emergency services or the United States government.

Even a former president can't escape jury duty.
