A senior police official while conforming the report said that JeM in a statement issued earlier in the day accepted that Masood Azhar's nephew Talha Rasheed was among the three terrorists killed in the encounter with security forces in Aglar village of Pulwama district.

Claiming this at a hurriedly called press conference here on Tuesday, Inspector General of Police (Kashmir range) Munir Ahmed Khan identified JeM chief's nephew as Talha Rasheed, a Pakistani national.

He said it was the first time that the U.S. made weapon was recovered from militants in Kashmir.

The militants were identified as Divisional Commander Muhammad Bhai and Waseem, a resident of Pulwama's Drubgam.

An armyman - Lance Naik Vrahma Pal Singh - was also killed in the encounter.

"We have reason to believe that this weapon was given by Pakistan Army to JeM cadre, and that there are five to ten such M4 carbine rifles".

The search operation led to a gunbattle after the terrorists fired at the security forces, they said.

One of the Pakistani militants, police said, was the nephew of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar.

"This US-made M4 carbine is presently with a lot of armies with the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. They have been carried by militants who recently infiltrated from Pakistan", Raja said.

GOC Victor Force said the prize catch of this operation were the two A++ category militants.

"There was disruption by locals who threw stones (at the security forces)".

"It's actions are also doing material harm to the health of a China-India relationship already under duress", he said.

He said there are about 16-20 more JeM militants in the Valley. "It is pertinent to mention that this M4 carbine colt rifle was in the social media in the recent time".

Security forces launched a search operation in Najwan forests of Ganderbal following information about presence of terrorist hideouts in the area, a police official said.
