Page: I Was On Papadopoulos Email About Linking Russia Up With Campaign

  • Why Attorney General Jeff Sessions will never indict Hillary Clinton

During a news conference in February, Trump said he knew of nobody from his campaign who was in contact with Russians during the election.

The same documents that disclosed the meeting show Papadopoulos has pleaded guilty to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his contact with Russians during the 2016 campaign.

During his January 10 confirmation hearing, Sessions said he was "not aware" of anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign coordinating with the Russian government when asked about such ties by Franken.

Sessions' failure to disclose those meetings ultimately led to his recusal from the Justice Department's Russian Federation investigation, and functioned as one of the many missteps that triggered the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller.

Another Trump campaign foreign policy adviser, George Papadopoulos, suggested during a campaign foreign policy meeting in march 2016 that he had "connections that could help arrange a meeting" between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Sessions made similar denials in two subsequent hearings before Congress on Russian Federation since taking office.

During an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper before the New York Times and CNN reports, Page confirmed that before going on the trip he mentioned his travel plans to travel to then-Sen. "I am deeply troubled that this newest revelation strongly suggests that the Senate ― and the American public ― can not trust your word".

Papadopoulos was named by Trump as a member of his foreign policy advisory panel in March 2016, when the candidate was trying to bolster his credentials as he moved to secure the Republican nomination for president. He later told CNN's Jim Sciutto the Russian official's name.

"He heard him out", JD Gordon, a campaign national security adviser who attended the March 31, 2016 meeting, told CNN Thursday.

But he downplayed the significance of the meetings, telling the Times he had "a very brief hello to a couple of people".

Sessions repeated that claim in written testimony to the committee, despite multiple meetings with the Russian envoy Sergey Kislyak during the campaign. "He was not aware of any continuous exchange of information during the campaign between Trump surrogates and intermediaries for Russian government as Sen".

"He needs to clarify his testimony before our committee", said Judiciary Committee member Sen. "I sent him a letter and I would like for him to come before the judiciary meeting again and explain himself".

"I'm really not involved with the Justice Department".
