George HW Bush Openly Criticizes Trump in New Book

06 November, 2017, 00:32 | Author: Priscilla Morrison

George Bush Sr and Jr, two former U.S. presidents, have never liked Donald Trump, and now they have gone on record with their blunt assessment of him, calling him a "blowhard" who doesn't know what it means to be the president of the country. "Donald Trump is everything that the Bush family is not", Updegrove told CNN. But now, their disdain for the 45th president has been made very clear. "I'm anxious that I will be the last Republican president", the younger Bush told Updegrove at one point during the campaign.

George W. Bush didn't expect Trump to win the general election, Updegrove told CNN in an interview about the book. Last year, neither voted for him - and that meant going against a party they both once led. But, in fact, George W. Bush had had a lifetime of making bold decisions.

"Inside the Extraordinary Relationship Between George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush", H.W. Bush told the author Mark Updegrove in 2016 that he doesn't like Trump.

It is rare in the modern political era to see former presidents to openly criticize their successors.

"It allows us to understand how much a renegade Trump is in the Republican Party", he said.

But "this is all different with Donald Trump", said presidential historian Douglas Brinkley. His son has been mostly measured in his public comments of Trump.

Harper Collins says this about the book, it "tracks the two Bush presidents from their formative years through their post-presidencies and the failed presidential candidacy of Jeb Bush, derailing the Bush presidential dynasty". "If they were interested in continuing decades of costly mistakes, another establishment politician more concerned with putting politics over people would have won".
