Trump greets Sikhs on Guru Nanak's birth anniversary

In an over one-minute long video message, the prime minister shared his thoughts on the Sikh Guru and urged all to imbibe his teachings. The first of the faith's 10 spiritual leaders, he devoted his life to promoting equality, altruism, tolerance and compassion. The day falls on the full moon day of Hindu month of Kartik.

Earlier, during the two previous instances the martyrdom anniversary of Guru Arjan Dev and the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in June - the MEA of India did not give its clearance for the visit amid tension on the border. Thousands of devotees, including children, were seen taking bath in holy sarovar at the Golden Temple. His birthday is celebrated as "Guru Nanak Jayanti". Guru Nanak Dev Ji taught every person should be treated equally as Waheguru (God) created everyone and present in every soul.

Along with the rest of the State, Guru Nanak Jayanti was also celebrated with religious fervour at the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Guruduwara, Tangla on Saturday.




The day begins with the singing of morning hymns and is followed by Katha and Kirtan, which is recital of scriptures and hymns in the praise of the Guru.

Many religious and social organizations had arranged langars for the devotees at these Gurdwaras. Mr Kovind said, Guru Nanak Dev stood against exploitation and atrocity, and dedicated himself to the service and welfare of the underprivileged.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi has extended greetings on the occasion of Gurpurab.
